Broken in the Next Release

You've got a hard launch deadline rapidly approaching. The site implementation team has been cranking out custom features like crazy and the themers are so deep into cross-browser debugging they've only communicating in monosylabic profanities and grunts. In other words it's all coming together, there's just one problem: all of the comps call for elegantly context-aware breadcrumbs, meanwhile core breadcrumbs are blissfully unaware of your customizations. What now?

I recently ran into an issue with an autocomplete callback while porting the Masquerade module to Drupal 7. The code looked fine, according to Coder I'd covered all of the obvious API changes and yet I still wasn't getting results.

D6 code:

   $result = db_query_range("SELECT u.name FROM {users} u WHERE LOWER(u.name) LIKE LOWER('%s%%')", $string, 0, 10);
  while ($user = db_fetch_object($result)) {
    $matches[$user->name] = check_plain($user->name);
  } 

Using like in Drupal 6 required doubling up %'s to get around filtering.
